The use of maps and historical events is a really important aspect when learning about history. This is because it gives a learner the ability to physically connect with a location and make the events they are learning about feel real. Maps are also good at showing cultural and spiritual land marks. Using digital maps is a great way to explore a location without having to physically go to a location, making it a high value accessibility option. Though maps are a helpful tool they are only as good as the information given with them. For example, if I gave someone a map of the Midwest without any information on it and without proper labelling they wouldn’t be able to use it for anything because there is no information.
Depending on the presentation of data it may give a viewer a misinterpretation of the information shown. News graphics are a good example, frequently news channels will post graphics showing data without properly explaining what each category means, if they are showing categories at all.
